Over the past few years, Mauritius has attracted significant Foreign Direct Investment in the healthcare sector. Major global healthcare players have set up multispeciality and superspeciality centres of excellence in Mauritius. The island is now gradually transforming itself into a healthcare and wellness destination. Moving forward, Mauritius is positioning itself as a high-end biomedical research hub by promoting the development of niche areas like Drug Discovery, Bioinformatics, Medical Biotechnology, Clinical Trials, Pre-Clinical Development, Stem Cells Research, Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine. Mauritius is now looking at the development of a fully integrated healthcare and life sciences sector.

The Board of Investment, the national investment promotion agency of Mauritius, is spearheading this initiative by creating the most appropriate environment and encouraging investment in healthcare and life sciences.

In this perspective, the Board of Investment in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Science and Research, Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, Enterprise Mauritius and Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority is organising a 2-day conference “BioHealth Mauritius 2009” which will be held on 7th and 8th December 2009 at Hilton Resort & Spa, Mauritius. BioHealth Mauritius 2009 will focus on the latest developments and investment opportunities in healthcare and life sciences industries.
